Kosovo's parliament meets Sunday afternoon to officially declare the province's independence from Serbia, a move opposed by Serbia and Russia but supported by many western governments.Mapmakers are happy.CNN's Alessio Vinci, reporting from the Kosovar capital Pristina, said that the plan is for Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to read out the independence declaration, which is written in Albanian, Serbian and English, to parliament before lawmakers pass it unanimously.
Vinci added that Kosovo's Albanian population were already singing and dancing in the streets as well as lighting firecrackers ahead of the much anticipated vote. "It's been like this for several hours now," he said.

Congratulations,
for first teroristic imagin state on this world!
This is war between Christians and Muslims.
I'm from Serbia, and this was always the deal with Kosovo.
CNN, if you want to post a map of ex-Yugoslavia, please spell Kosovo right, at least lol.
All people of Serbia are Christians. All people from current government that just declared independence are Muslims.
So, there is nothing else to say. Of course they want independence, they can't stand living around Christians.
They burned all Christian temples, churches, and most of the houses.
I just don't understand why are all "western governments" supporting this?
Why they don't support something normal.
Kosovo is a province, just like in US you have State of Oklahoma and you have CARTER county. That's what's Kosovo in Serbia!
Carter county can't just come up and say, we are the COUNTRY NOW! Like Mexicans came there, and decided to call Carter County new Country, in the middle of US, that is the exact same comparison!
This is so funny. We knew this is coming, but not like this.
I truly expected (as one Serbian, that hate politics, just prefer Democrats in Serbia) that United States, European Union will more like support people there (no matter of race, or religion) in living together and giving Muslim people rights there.
We did. Serbia did come up and offer Hashim Taci the deal where it stated that they will get full support there, that we will never use force agains them and that they can live and work there just like Serbian people. Muslims didn't want that.
They want to be all by themselves there and Christian-free.
This is becoming interesting. I can't wait to see what happens now.
I know one thing for sure - this will either come up very nice and all people will calm down now, and Muslims will be fair and play it fair with Serbians now, since they have independence, or there will be another war...
I wish it all ends good. I'm sick of people dying there because of stupid, and selfish politicians.
Declare independence? That's what I did when I turned 18. Then the bills started to come in.
Kosovo cannot unilaterally declare independence inasmuch as Illinois cannot become a separate nation. Kosovo has been a part of Serbia for centuries. There is no basis in international law for unilateral and illegal declarations like this. What ever happened to the concept of assimilation?? Maybe the Kosovar Albanians should leave the region if they can't become model Serbian citizens.
It's unbelievable to encounter the level of brainwashing EX-yugoslav theologies have done even to young Serbs today.
RELIGION HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH KOSOVA. (*If you Serbs claim to be a Christian nation...the mass Albanian graves that Milosevic left behind should have never happened.)
As for the matter of historical claims...it's accepted by all legitimate world think tanks that Slavic people have moved to the Balkans from the north-east Europe. Illyrians, ancestors of Albanians, were always located in the modern day Balkans...if you're a Christian...please open your Bibles and look into ancient maps that document such facts. The myslim religion in the Balkan is present there as a result of 500 years of occupation from the Ottoman rule. What was the present religion before the Ottomans arrived? Dig your truth outside of the Milosevic box presented to you.
Kosova’s Independence was long overdue. When Serbians claim the UN Security council is against freedom in Kosova…they mean that Russia ONLY is against it…for Russia in the likes of Serbia is at fault with many satellite states post the Soviet Union era. The case of Kosova has absolutely nothing to do with any other ethnic groups around the world. It’s a unique case on it’s own. In modern times…at year 2008…the PEOPLE (ie. 95% of population in Kosova is Albanian) should have the ultimate voice in deciding their own future. In the likes of other former ex-yugoslav republics - Kosova must live free of Serbia…a disgraceful nation - led by nazzi like figure Milosevic - that has treated Kosovars in most inhumane way possible…as documented by legitimate public sources all around the world. It’s time to look ahead toward a prosperous future…the kind that produces happiness not defined by physical country borderlines but by moral human progress that respects the individul and supports co-harmonious living.
